Where is Withington Homeopathy? It is my practice run from my home office in Withington, South Manchester UK.

Can I book a consultation if I’m not local? Yes, I can see patients by Skype or Zoom.

What does a Homeopathic consultation involve? At a first consultation (1h 30 mins),  I listen to you and ask questions so I can write down all your current and past symptoms. I  ask about your diet, any medications you are taking and your lifestyle. I write down your symptoms in detail so I can analyse them later. I might ask; When and how often does the symptom occur? What makes it better or worse? What was going on in your life when the symptoms started? Many people find this process emotional but enlightening as you start to understand and notice patterns or triggers that affect your own health.

What happens after the first Consultation? I analyse the symptoms you have given and find an appropriate remedy or remedies to fit that particular set of symptoms. I then send the remedies to you by post within a few days. I book a second consultation in about 4-5 weeks time so we can assess progress. Homeopathy can work slowly in chronic conditions so a course of 3 appointments over 3 months is suggested.

How long does homeopathic treatment take to work? This varies depending on the person, the condition being treated the potency of the remedy and the repetition of dosing.  For example Homeopathic remedies given in an acute situation (eg acute cystitis) can work within 10 minutes and would be repeated every half hour, whereas remedies for a more chronic condition might work after 5-7 days and progress would be slower paced.  Patients have come to me with an array of physical and emotional symptoms and after taking the remedies they report that they don’t have those symptoms any longer. If the symptoms come back at a later date and they repeat the remedy the symptoms go away again. Sometimes the first remedy I give doesn’t address all the symptoms so then I reassess the case at the follow up, find more information and re prescribe and the second remedy helps more.

Many people of skeptical of homeopathy -how does it work? I totally understand why people are skeptical and the short answer is I do not know how they work but when I take a remedy that fits my symptoms I can tell it’s working because I feel and behave differently. For example when I have an acute kidney infection I get a set of symptoms which come on very quickly. Firstly, I often have been very busy the preceeding day or so rushing around and may have forgotten to drink my normal amount of fluid and may not have been eating very healthily. The physical symptoms come on very quickly:- swelling on the right side of my abdomen, pain in the ureter and kidney on any motion (worse jarring, coughing, sneezing breathing), pain and heaviness in the kidney like I’m carrying a stone in place of the kidney,  I cannot walk upright and have to stoop over. I feel very restless and although it hurts to move I, very strangely, feel compelled to tidy up and clean the house -it seems an absolute priority. I become bothered by details like how clean my windows are which normally I wouldn’t notice. This makes absolutely no sense but this pattern of symptoms come together as a bundle. The remedy I take at this point is arsenicum 200c. Within about 10 minutes I can feel swelling subside and the pain getting better.  I think “why am I cleaning? and why am I rushing around?” I realise I’m not well so I stop and rest. I feel like I want to drink more water so I do. I feel like I need to eat something healthy and I do that. I repeat the remedy 3-5 times that day and about 2-3 times the next couple of days and the symptoms go. I don’t have to take antibiotics as I would have done in the past.

What are homeopathic remedies made of?  They can be made of any material or substance but the ones I use most in my practice are made from minerals, plants or animals. The original substance is diluted many times so remedies are therefore non-toxic, non invasive and non-addictive. Remedies are either in liquid form or on small pills which are easy to take and taste nice!

Does homeopathy interact with other medications? No, homeopathy can be taken alongside drugs prescribed by your doctor or other herbal medicines. I do not advise any patient to stop taking any prescription drugs, even if they feel better, unless they first consult their primary care provider.

Can I take homeopathy if I have a pre existing medical condition ? Yes, most people I see have a pre existing medical condition, but it is advised you consult your GP for advice, diagnosis and treatment and always inform them before starting any alternative or additional therapies, treatments or making any major changes in your diet or exercise programme.

What sorts of conditions can benefit from homeopathy? I have seen patients with a variety of conditions. They can be in the physical body, emotional, or mental and they can be minor or persistent. I have found people report increased feelings of health and well-being after homeopathic treatment. Please see my testimonials.
